How do we stop the RISE OF THE RIGHT?
Join the discussion!
Prime Minister Pierre Poilievre is not an inevitability. After Donald Trump's win, and the dismal BC election that almost saw the far-right BC Conservatives win power, it's easy to feel despair.
But the left can still win, pushing back the far right and building power for transformational politics — if we get organized. Both at the grassroots level in our unions and communities, and in electoral politics, socialists have an indispensable role to play.
Join a facilitated discussion as part of our AGM about what socialists in Vancouver need to do to be most effective in the years ahead.
ON THE AGENDA
Our Annual General Meeting is an opportunity for members and other interested comrades to come together and debrief the past year. On the agenda you’ll find Annual Reports from our different working groups and campaigns, as well as an important election.
Each year we elect persons to stand on the DSOV Steering Committee (SC). While individual working groups and campaigns govern their own activities, the SC helps with organizing, promotion, funding and more.
The SC is also tasked with overseeing the strategic direction of the Democratic Socialists of Vancouver (DSoV) and ensuring that the organization's activities align with its mission and statement of unity.
If you have ideas about the future of the DSOV, or the mechanisms involved in running its affairs, consider committing a year or two to the Steering Committee. Elected comrades are expected to serve two years.
A typical SC will consist of 9 members. The current committee comprises 8 members. All current SC members willing to serve again will appear on the ballot. As this year will see a change in term length, the ballot will go as follows:
Top 4 persons in vote count will serve two years
The others will serve one year.
After 2024, all SC persons will be voted in for 2 years.
